Gotham Newsstand began as a business in April of 2012 when Peter Hensel realized he had to sell his huge comic collection that was encroaching on hsi housemates' personal living room. What began after years of learning how to set up shop in events at La Villita and Bussey's Market as well as comic convention and more appropriate comic themed events, we finally made the jump to a small retail space when the buying and reselling was proving somewhat successful. Soon after a healthy amount of subscribers offered to come by for specific new titles to support a venture into retailing new product and man have we enjoyed a wild ride since! Years passed withs teady growth in teh Wonderland of the Americas Mall where modular retail spacing allowed us to gradually annex more and more space to better suit our growing needs. Eventually we had ambitions of a larger retail space and set out to purchase Zero City Comics and begin a second store location in a much different kind of town where we wouldn't be seasoned back issue curators turned modern release connection, but we could more professionally present ourselves as a book and comic store with a used record store vibe to our back issue library, and greater security allowed us to showcase more expensive back issues in store.
Recently we did annex more space at the Little shops in time for Free Comic Book Day 2019 and have some great old comics over there as well as a healthy selection of collectible novelties now.
